10U Division

10U Division

Players:

 

  • 10U has a division for boys and a division for girls.
  • For Fall 2017 & Spring 2018, players in this division were born in 2008 and 2009.
Teams:

 

  • Maximum Roster: 10
  • Players on Field: 7v7 (including goalkeepers)
  • Games may not start or continue if there are less than 5 players on a team.
  • Coaches: Safe Haven and 10U-certified (2 coaches per team)
Practices and Games:

 

  • Frequency: Three soccer events per week. Games are played on Saturdays and some weeknights.
  • Duration: Practices are 1 hour in length. Games consist of two 25-minute halves with substitutions at the midpoint of each half. The halftime break is 5-10 minutes.

  • Heading is banned for all division players 12U and below in both practices and matches. An indirect kick will be awarded to the opposing team if a player deliberately heads the ball during a match.
  • Training of throw-in technique may begin at 10U and up.
  • For 10U to 12U, the goalkeeper shall not punt the ball. An indirect kick will be awarded to the opposing team if a goalkeeper deliberately punts the ball during a match.
  • For 10U, a Build-out Line is used in place of offside.
BUILD-OUT LINE (10U):

 

    1. The build-out line shall be placed across the field equidistant between the top of the penalty area and the halfway line.
    2. The opposing team must move behind the build-out line for a goal kick or when the goalkeeper has possession. At any time, the goalkeeper may pass, throw or roll the ball to a teammate who is behind the build-out line.
    3. The goalkeeper or the player taking the goal kick does not have to wait for the opposing players to move behind the build-out line. The play from the goalkeeper or from the goal kick must be played to a teammate behind the build-out line. After the ball is put into play, the opposing team can then cross the build-out line and play may resume as normal. The first touch is from the goal kick or the pass from the goalkeeper.
    4. The build-out line shall be used as the line to determine offside. Players cannot be penalized for an offside offense between the halfway line and the build-out line.
Equipment:

 

  • Ball Size: 4
  • Shin guards must be worn under the socks, next to the skin, and cannot be exposed.No player will be allowed to participate without shin guards.
  • Soccer cleats are recommended, although gym shoes or sneakers are permissible.
  • Players are encouraged to bring their own soccer ball and water bottle. Please remember to write your last name on your soccer ball and personal items.
Volunteers:

 

  • Coaches: 2 coaches per team – Safe Haven and 10U Coach certified (or higher).
  • Referees: Each team is required to provide one (or more) AYSO-certified referee. Team referee(s) may officiate their own team’s match but are encouraged to officiate non-affiliated matches instead. In order to qualify their team for the Tournament, the team referee(s) must officiate a minimum of 12 games. During the Tournament, team referee(s) must complete 3 more games before the Semifinals but cannot officiate any matches in his/her team’s division.
